Alexis Barr

Alexis is a CRUK Career Development Fellow.

She received her undergraduate degree in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge, and completed her PhD at the CRUK Cambridge Institute with Fanni Gergely. After a Postdoc with Chris Bakal at the Institute of Cancer Research, she moved to the Institute of Clinical Sciences to start her own team.

Steve.jpg

Stephen Cutty

Stephen is a CRUK funded Research Assistant.

Stephen received his undergraduate degree in Biochemistry from Cardiff and Masters in Molecular Medicine from Brunel University. Before joining the Barr lab he gained a range of experience in the fields of cancer, developmental and stem cell biology. On the rare occasion Stephen is not pipetting he likes to sample the finest IPAs on offer and can often be found doing a bit of crash bang wallop in the gym. Stephen likes to talk about himself in the third person!

Rosa Camarillo

Rosa holds a Postdoctoral Fellowship from the Fundacion Alfonso Martin Escudero.

She received her undergraduate degree in Biomedicine and masters degree in Molecular Genetics and Biotechnology from the University of Seville. She then completed her PhD with Pablo Huertas (co-supervised by Sonia Jimeno) at CABIMER/University of Seville. The aim of her thesis was to study the effect of G-quadruplexes structures in DNA Double-strand break repair.

Lucas Morales

Lucas is an MRC-funded PhD student. He received his Bachelor degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology and his Masters degree in Genetics and Epigenetics at the University of Montpellier. During his Masters, he worked on transcriptional memory and brain development using live-cell imaging.

Lucas is interested in cell cycle control and has joined the lab to decipher how molecular networks control proliferation-quiescence decisions. Outside the lab, Lucas loves to complain about London weather. He also tries to relax, but typically doesn’t.

Alasdair Daniels

Alasdair is a PhD student funded by a Roth Scholarship and is co-supervised by Philipp Thomas.

He received his master’s degree in Mathematics from Imperial, during which he worked on developing AI models to identify latent states in cell lineages. Alasdair is now working on a new deep learning pipeline for cell tracking.

Luc Alban Vuillemenot

Luc Alban is a CRUK-funded Postdoc in the lab.

He received his Undergraduate degree in Science, Technology & Health (major in Microbiology) and Masters degree in Molecular Biology, specializing in Molecular Microbiology and Pathogenesis from the University Claude Bernard Lyon 1. He then pursued a PhD under the supervision of Andreas Milias-Argeitis (and co-supervised by Kathrin Thedieck) at the University of Groningen. The focus of his doctoral research was on the establishment of single-cell readouts for studying TORC1 and PKA growth regulatory pathways activities throughout the cell cycle.

Ekjot Kaur

Ekjot is an MRC-funded postdoc in the team.

She received her Bachelors degree in Biochemistry from the University of Delhi and her Masters degree in Biotechnology from the All India Institute of Immunology, India. During her PhD at Tata Memorial Centre-ACTREC, Ekjot worked on identifying novel molecular mechanisms mediating cancer resistance. She has previous postdoctoral experience trying to decipher the different functions of BLM helicase.

Outside the lab, Ekjot likes to explore new places and engage in craft activities.

Will Weston

Will is an MRC-funded PhD student in the lab who joined in October 2022.

He received his combined undergraduate and masters degree in Biology from the University of Manchester. Will then worked as a Research Assistant at the Institute of Child Health at UCL before joining us to embark on his PhD. Now he is digging into mechanisms that can drive quiescence in breast cancer.

Joshua Tomkins

Josh is an EPSRC-funded PhD student.

He received his MChem in July 2020 from Durham University, UK, working in Clare Mahon‘s group with protein-polymer conjugate materials to study protein migration within bacterial outer membranes. Josh started his PhD at Imperial College London in October 2020, working between the groups of Anna Barnard (Dept of Chemistry), Christian Speck (Institute of Clinical Sciences) and us to develop peptides that stall replication origin licensing and hopefully induce apoptosis in non-small cell lung cancer cells.

Lucy Dan

Lucy is a PhD student funded by the CRUK Convergence Centre. She is co-supervised by Anna Barnard (Dept of Chemistry) and Basil Greber (Institute of Cancer Research).

She received her BSc in Biological Sciences at Durham University, UK. She then completed an MRes in Adam Benham's group at Durham University investigating the role of autophagy in cancer. Her PhD project investigates the potential for novel p21-disrupting peptides to prevent quiescence and resistance to chemotherapy.
